The green, inner area is the actual VRS network area, consisting of the cities of Cologne, Bonn, Leverkusen and Monheim as well as the districts of Rhein-Erft-Kreis, Rhein-Sieg-Kreis, Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, Oberbergischer Kreis and Kreis Euskirchen. The following apply to the use of local public transport
- uniform tickets and prices (VRS tariff),
- coordinated timetables and
- joint information and services provided by the transport companies in the VRS.
However, many VRS season tickets and combined tickets can also be used in neighboring towns and municipalities or on individual lines in neighboring regions, in the so-called VRS network (area within the red dotted line).
In addition, the Aachener Verkehrsverbund (AVV) as well as some cities and municipalities in the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR) can be used with VRS tickets if the border of the network area is crossed during the respective journey.
