Mobility guarantee
Will get you through delays and cancellations.
If your bus or train is delayed by 20 minutes or more at the departure stop, you have various alternatives that will still get you on your way - thanks to the NRW mobility guarantee.
In this case, you can either use a long-distance train (IC/EC/ICE), a cab, a taxi-like service provider or a sharing service (e.g. car/bike/e-scooter sharing or on-demand transport) as an alternative and continue your journey.
The additional costs for this will be reimbursed to you later - in full for long-distance travel, and either in full or pro rata for cabs, driving services or sharing services, depending on the amount:
Across the country, the costs for a cab, a cab service or a sharing service are reimbursed per person
- up to 30 euros during the day (between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m.) and
- up to 60 euros at night (between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.)
reimbursed.
Please note: You must change to the alternative means of transport within 60 minutes. The transfer time begins when the guarantee claim comes into effect.

The mobility guarantee applies if your chosen means of local transport is cancelled or leaves the departure stop at least 20 minutes later than indicated in the timetable.
You must then change to the alternative means of transport within 60 minutes. The transfer time begins when the guarantee entitlement comes into effect.
You must be in possession of a valid local transport ticket for this journey at the VRS tariff or NRW tariff (i.e. not a long-distance ticket).
The mobility guarantee only applies if the delay does not occur during the journey and is not caused by strike, severe weather, forces of nature, bomb disposal or bomb threats.

The mobility guarantee applies to all North Rhine-Westphalian network and community fares, i.e. not only in the VRS, but throughout NRW - regardless of which means of local transport you are travelling with.
